Jon Darling, a preeminent Jacksonville, Florida
artist was born in San Diego
in 1945. He was influenced by the colors of spectacular Mountain View, California
where he grew up. In 1963 he attended Palm Beach Junior College
and became involved with the Sherwood Forest Studio Group and later attended
the Lake Worth Art League as a student in 1965. Thereafter, he participated in
the Ray Johnson New York
"Correspondence" school of art. In 1967 Jon received a Bachelor of
Fine Arts from Drake University in Des
Moines, Iowa. In
1971, Jon partnered with Composer in Residence, William Hoskins and Dr. Barre Barrett of Jacksonville
University and formed the
"Lumasonic Trio". During this time he also collaborated with
synthesizer Robert Moog. These collaborations inspired Jon to create many
Lumasonic (lighted assembly) and planetarium works. Jon has used his creative
skills with the Palm Beach
Society of American Inventors, Dale McClung's Artworks Gallery, the National
Railroad Historical Society (Palm Beach Chapter), Project Lake Worth and the
Lake Worth Community Development Corporation. He has been an art consultant
with the Columbia County, Florida schools. He has exhibited in the Waterloo
Iowa Gallery, the Jacksonville, Jacksonville University,
the Sherwood Forest Studios in Lake
Worth Florida and the
Lake Worth Art League. He taught art in Keosauqua,
Iowa.
